College of Business - Undergraduate Admissions Policy
Beginning with the fall 2007 semester, the College of Business adopted a selective admissions policy. This new standard applies to students seeking admission to the College in fall 2007 or thereafter. Those admitted to FAU prior to August 2007 (any College or Major) are not subject to the new requirements unless they have been out of FAU a minimum of one year. Additionally, students seeking majors in General Economics, and Health Administration (has separate restriction policy, see catalog) are exempt from these selective admissions standards. This policy refers to admission, within the college of business, to either upper-division or lower-division.
The selective admissions policy categorizes students into two groups:
lower-division - those who have yet to complete the upper-division admissions requirements (Pre-Business status) and
upper-division - those who have met the standards and are admitted to a selective major.
To be admitted to upper-division, students must meet the following criteria:
1. Attain a minimum 2.5 FAU GPA at the time of application to an upper-division major (transfer students who meet all admissions requirements prior to entering FAU may be admitted to upper-division based on their cumulative transfer GPA, provided no FAU credit has been earned);
2. Complete preprofessional course work (listed below), with minimum grades of "C";
ACG 2021, Financial Accounting
ACG 2071, Managerial Accounting
ECO 2013, Macroeconomics
ECO 2023, Microeconomics
MAC 2233, Methods of Calculus
STA 2023, Introductory Statistics
ISM 2000, Information Systems Fundamentals
3. Fulfill the Florida CLAS requirements;
4. Fulfill the FAU Foreign Language Entry requirement.
5. Earn a minimum of 60 credits;
Most 3000-4000 level business courses are restricted to students who have been admitted to upper-division status (a selective major program).
However, a few 3000-4000 level business courses are allowed while still PBUS restricted, as follows:
1. Courses required for the business administraton minor: MAN 3025, MAR 3023, and FIN 3403;
2. Business courses not required by any business major program;
3. All economics courses.
Students in lower-division (Pre-Business) are extremely limited in the Upper-division (3000-4000) level business courses they may take until they have completed all the upper-division admissions requirements.
Students in non-business programs may request permission to take restricted business classes as long as they are making significant progress in their declared major.
