FAU to Host Global Entrepreneurship Week Events

Florida Atlantic University’s Adams Center for Entrepreneurship within the College of Business will celebrate Global Entrepreneurship Week/USA beginning Monday, November 12 through Friday, November 16, at FAU’s Boca Raton campus, 777 Glades Road. Global Entrepreneurship Week/USA is a national celebration of the innovators and job creators that launch startups in which ideas come to life, drive economic growth and expand human welfare.
The following events will offer FAU students, faculty and the business community opportunities to explore their potential as entrepreneurs and innovators:
2012 Idea Challenge
November 7-16, 2012
FAU College of Business
Up for a challenge? The 2012 Idea Challenge is a fast-paced competition that challenges college students to find new uses for a common, everyday item that creates added value. The mystery item is revealed November 7. Teams have until November 16, just 8 days, to come up with a multitude of new uses for the object. Teams share their results via a 3 minute or less YouTube video. The Adams Center for Entrepreneurship will provide the workspace, record and upload your video, all you have to do is supply the ideas! 2013 FAU Business Plan Competition Registration
Monday, November 12, at 9:00 a.m.
Registration kicks off for FAU’s 2013 Business Plan Competition, hosted by Florida Atlantic University’s Adams Center for Entrepreneurship and the College of Business. FAU students, alumni and members of the business community will be invited to compete for a share of more than $200,000 in cash and prizes. This year’s competition will feature three tracks: FAU student track, Entrepreneur Track and for the first time FAU BPC/Boca Chamber’s – Young Entrepreneur Academy Track (open to YEA! program participants only).
Entrepreneur Organization Accelerator: South Florida

In partnership with the Adams Center for Entrepreneurship at FAU’s College of Business, the Entrepreneur Organization (EO) Accelerator of South Florida will host a full day session covering a range of topics including Human Resources and Employee issues. Accelerator, an Entrepreneurs’ Organization program, is the catalyst that enables first-stage entrepreneurs to catapult their business to the next level. Their mission is to empower entrepreneurs with the tools they need to grow their business. This session is open to EO Accelerator South Florida members as well as FAU students, faculty and staff.
Thinking Outside Your Market: A Panel Discussion

Are you interested in exploring the topic of growing your business outside of your local market? Join us for “Thinking Outside Your Market,” a panel discussion from experts who will share how they successfully transitioned their business to a global market. Speakers include: Jose Luis, President and CEO of United Business Ventures; Frederico Restrepo, Founder of Sysgold; Fernando Mercenari, Investor and Industrial Engineer; and Guillermo Perez-Vargas, Principal, Great Service Restaurants, LLC. This event is free and open to the public. Space is limited.
Crowdfunding Competition: Peerbackers.com Lunch & Learn

Crowdfunding is the latest method being utilized by inventors, authors, musicians, filmmakers, and more to generate funding for their ideas by raising capital from their “peers” in small increments. The founders of www.peerbackers.com, the online site for creating your crowd funding profile, will be hosting a lunch and learn session for FAU students on how crowdfunding works, how to build a profile and how to win the new crowd funding competition in partnership with the FAU's Adams Center for Entrepreneurship.
FAU Executive Forum Lecture Series

Entrepreneur Boot Camp: Presenting the Business Plan

FAU’s Entrepreneur Boot Camp empowers promising entrepreneurs and ambitious small business owners by providing an innovative, fast-paced course inclusive of creating a business plan, tips on finding money, and tips on designing the right operation for success. In honor of Global Entrepreneurship Week, FAU is offering the community a one time complimentary session on Friday, November 16th.
