Online BBA (OBBA) - Accounting

Accounting

Accounting is the cornerstone of successful business, with adept financial reporting and analysis enabling firms to make strategic decisions about future operations, comply with financial disclosure regulations and maintain consumer trust. FAU’s Online BBA (OBBA) program in Accounting prepares students to become Certified Public Accountants (CPA) or obtain other certifications such as CMA, CIA, CISA, CGFM, or CFE through the development of a strong educational foundation and technical skills in the areas of cost allocation and analysis, financial reporting, modern accounting theory, income taxation and ethical issues in business.

As an Accounting major, students learn how to:

  • Identify, measure and communicate economic information
  • Audit financial records
  • Prepare tax returns and file financial reports
  • Maintain compliance with government regulations
  • Make strategic recommendations to the management team and the Board of Directors

As the business environment continues to evolve and expand in response to increasing economic growth, globalization, technological innovation and regulatory intensity, the need for accountants and auditors has grown exponentially. According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, employment is projected to increase 6% from 2018-28, faster than average for most occupations. The medium annual wage was $70,500 in May 2018, with the top 10% of accountants earning in excess of $122,500.

Led by expert faculty with years of professional experience and research in the field, the Online BBA (OBBA) program in Accounting teaches students financial literacy, deductive reasoning and analytical skills, empowering them to gain valuable strategic insights from large amounts of financial data. Degree completion prepares students for careers in accounting, auditing, bookkeeping, forensics, tax, government, teaching, or advanced graduate degrees/doctoral research.
