2025 College of Business Golf Classic

Tournament Rules

4 Person Step-Aside Scramble/Net

All players shall hit a tee shot. The team will then select a drive from the group. The player whose drive is selected shall step-aside while the rest of the group hits the next shot, placing their balls within one club length no nearer the hole, of the shot selected by the team. The team shall select a second shot. The player whose ball is selected for the second shot shall step-aside while the rest of the group hits their next shot placing their balls within one club length, no nearer the hole, of the shot selected by the team. Continue this format until the ball is on the green. Once on the green, all players will putt.

    • Each player will be responsible for a minimum of one (1) drive.

Threesomes

Threesomes will play a normal scramble format, however, Player 1 will hit two drives and two putts on the first hole, Player 2 will hit two drives and two putts on the second hole and Player 3 will hit two drives and two putts on the third hole. On the fourth hole the rotation restarts and Player 1 will hit two drives and two putts. Continue this throughout the round. Each player of the threesome must have a minimum of one (1) drive.

    • There is a maximum score of DOUBLE BOGEY
    • There is a 2-putt maximum per hole.
    • The ball must be on the green to count as a putt.
    • Example: If your team reaches the green in three shots, the most your team can score on that hole is five.

Scoring

Each group is responsible for recording its team scramble score in the designated area on the scorecard. Upon completion of play, please deduct the number of strokes, in RED, from the GROSS score to determine the team’s NET score. At least one completed scorecard from the team must be turned in with two (2) signatures.

Rules

USGA rules govern all play. The ball may be moved one club length from where the ball lies, maintaining the integrity of the lie. For example, if the ball is in the bunker it must remain in the bunker. Once on the green, the ball may be placed one scorecard length, no closer to the hole.

  • Carefully rake sand traps after use.
  • Ball hawking is also prohibited. Players may retrieve their own ball if reachable but may not search for others.

Golf Handicaps

  • In accordance with the handicap requirements of the Unites States Golf Association (USGA) & World Handicap System (WHS, formally USGA GHIN), Broken Sound Club has established a process to ensure the integrity of the USGA. This process has been established with CapPatrol (partner of the USGA).
  • CapPatrol software monitors all aspects of golf handicaps daily and gives golfers credit for posting scores for “tournament golf.”
  • CapPatrol & the Golf Committee(s) monitor that scores are being posted, all elements of the USGA Handicap System are followed, and the integrity of each Handicap Index issued is maintained.
  • All Members must accurately post their score for each round played in accordance with USGA handicap rules.
  • To be eligible for prizes at any Club tournament or event, a participant must have proof of an approved USGA Handicap and a minimum of 10 rounds posted in the previous 12 months. To post a 9-hole score, the player must play 7 to 12 holes. To post an 18-hole score, the player must play at least 13 holes. Scores for unplayed holes must be recorded as par plus any handicap strokesthat the player is entitled to receive on the unplayed holes.
  • The PGA Professional staff, CapPatrol and/or the Golf Committee(s) will determine if there are violations of the above rules by Members. Adjustments will be made immediately to a player’s index reflecting the decision prior to each event. These adjustments are applied for league and club events only.
  • The maximum hole score for each player is limited to a Net Double Bogey, calculated as follows:
    • Double Bogey + handicap strokes a player receives based on their Course Handicap.
    • For example, if John Smith (18 handicap from yellow tees), plays the first hole par 5 (he gets 1 shot), but he hits 3 balls left into the water. He then sits in the cart and rides to the next tee.His score for that hole should be 8. Par 5+2 double bogey+1 handicap shot=8. If John Smith is a 10 handicap, and the first hole is the number 11 handicap hole, then under the same circumstances as above his score would be 7. Par 5 plus double bogey =7 as he does not receive the handicap shot. He would only receive the handicap shot on handicap holes 1 thru 10.

Weather

  • Weather is monitored by the Thor Guard Lightning and Weather Warning System.
  • There are two (2) warning signals (siren) players hear on course:
    • One (1) long 10 second blast: Lightning imminent – may be repeated. Stop play immediately and seek cover.
    • Three (3) short two second blasts: All clear – reduced danger.
  • Areas to seek out: Clubhouse, on-course buildings, lightning shelters, maintenance buildings, automobiles, or trucks. Dense woods or low-lying areas if above are not available.
  • Areas to avoid: Open areas, tall trees, overhead wires, golf carts, water, metal fences, elevated ground, and mowers. Avoid use of cell phones and radios.
