For Students: Participate in a Study
In the College of Business, we are motivated to ensure that our students are both
effective consumers of knowledge generated through academic research and knowledgeable
of the academic research process. Participating in low-risk research studies is an important
way of obtaining first-hand experience with academic research.

Students utilizing the Behavioral Insights Lab - Sona System should refer to their class syllabus for information on the number of credits that are required or offered as extra credit for the course. Students who are not eligible (under 18 years at the time of enrollment) or would like an alternative assignment, will still enroll through the BIL - Sona System and then choose the alternative assignment(s). Once you decide for either being a research participant or choose the alternative assignments route, you will need to stick with it through the respective semester – switching between the modes is not possible.
Studies and alternative assignments are designed in 15-minute increments, each 15 minutes equivalates to 1 Sona Participation Credit (30-minute studies to 2 Sona Participation Credits and so on). Students are responsible to check on new studies that will be posted throughout the semester and fulfill their credit requirement. Study credits will be shared with the students’ instructors at the end of the semester.
Important Considerations:
-
- To access your account and current studies, students should click here and use the login information emailed from the BIL - Sona System. You may also download the free Sona Systems app for Android or iOS for your mobile phone, allowing you to sign up for studies directly from your mobile device easily. Please check the site frequently for new studies.
- Login information will be sent during the third week of classes (after the add/drop date) and studies will be accessible until the last day of classes. Each semester, the system will reset and you will have to create a new account if you continue to participate. Do not request your own account from the website but wait until log-in information are mailed to you.
- Please note that the Sona System of the Behavioral Insights Lab and the Sona System of the Department of Psychology at FAU are not related, so students MUST complete studies from the BIL – Sona System website to receive credit for their course. If you have questions contact us.
