Fundamentals of Power BI
Florida Atlantic University's Fundamentals of Power BI program teaches students to perform descriptive analytics using the Microsoft Power BI tool, which is currently in very high demand by companies as their preferred analysis tool.
The Fundamentals of Power BI program runs concurrently with the first six weeks of the Executive Certificate in Business Analytics. Students who wish to earn the full Executive Certificate in Business Analytics may register for the full Executive Certificate in Business Analytics prior to the start of the course or choose to register for the full course as they near completion of the Fundamentals of Power BI course.

COURSE BENEFITS
Descriptive analytics includes creation of visualizations and dashboards. Students will learn the basics of visualization creation, at-a-glance report building, converting to a dashboard, formatting report, clean up and data transformation process and identifying meaningful insights.
The course uses both Power BI cloud/service and desktop so students get experience in both. The curriculum includes hands-on experience on all the analytics aspects mentioned above in the form of weekly assignments.
CURRICULUM DESCRIPTION
Participants taking this 6-week program:
- Become knowledgeable in the Business Analytics methodology and concepts.
- Understand and identify the principal components of visualizations and dashboards
- Understand business practices for analyzing real world datasets using the popular Microsoft Power BI – Big data tool
IDEAL CANDIDATE
Candidates for this class include:
- Business professional whose professional goal is to be involved in analytics, analyzing data, creating visualization, reports/dashboards
- Some Excel knowledge or experience working with spreadsheets is recommended
- Textbook is NOT required. Notes will be provided by instructor. Power BI provides open-source access for universities so students are issued an FAU email address.
FACULTY
Dr. Bharti Sharma has been teaching various Business Analytics courses in the College of Business at FAU since 2017. She has published research papers related to data analytics in prominent journals. She also has post-doctoral experience performing data analytics at the University of Miami.
Prior to her career in academia, she gained twelve years of extensive business analysis and programming experience working for Florida Power & Light company. As an educator, she believes in delivering the highest quality teaching content and focuses on hands-on learning using latest analytical tools.
