COURSE BENEFITS

Florida Atlantic University's Introduction to Project Management guides participants through the complete life cycle of a project from concept to closure. Participants will leave with a portfolio of project management tools and techniques which support the delivery of projects on schedule, within budget and with minimal risk.

This course will lay the foundation of project management methodology and practical application, focusing on best practices in project management as determined by the Project Management Institute (PMI).

Participants who enroll in the Introduction to Project Management also have the option to attend an intensive 24-hour preparatory course for the Certified Associate Project Management (CAPM)® certification exam.

An Executive Introduction in Project Management certificate will be awarded upon completion of the program demonstrating the knowledge, comprehension, and understanding of the material.

 


CURRICULUM DESCRIPTION

Using presentations, lessons, and group assignments, this course will walk through the entire life cycle of a project.

Participants will be able to:

  • Discuss projects using PMBOK® Guide terminology
  • Develop an integrated project plan using world-class best practices
  • Acquire and develop the right project team
  • Execute the integrated project plan
  • Monitor and control progress against the baseline plan
  • Manage stakeholder expectations
  • Manage and control change
  • Close the project and transition the results

IDEAL CANDIDATE

There are no specific requirements to enroll in this course other than an interest in learning more about Project Management.

Candidates for this class include:

  • New and current project managers who wish to be introduced to the methodology and effective practice of project management
  • Individuals who would like to take on project management responsibilities
  • Individuals who desire to start working toward a PMI® certification

Barbara Zimmerman

FAU Instructor

Barbara Zimmerman, (MSPM, BSIM, PMP®, PMI-RMP®, PMI-SP®, PMI-ACP®) has over 20 years experience in the Information Technology industry with half of that in project management.

As both a consultant and employee, she has obtained experience in the utilities, manufacturing, education, software development, and financial industries. As a trainer, she has delivered workshops in PMP® Exam Prep Certification, Project Management using Microsoft Project, and the Microsoft Office tools.

Also, Barbara had earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Industrial Management from Purdue University and a Master of Science degree in Project Management at George Washington University.
