2020 Kicker Stats - Week 8

Ratings are based on a formula that adds points for a successful field goal, and subtracts points for a missed field goal.  The amount added or subtracted changes based on factors such as field goal distance, time of the game (momentum shift), weather conditions, temperature, and stadium altitude.  See our methodology.

"Week 8 Rank" is based on "Week 8 Score" (points earned in during Conference Championship and Bowl Games).

"Season Score," is an accumulation of points earned throughout the season. We believe this is the best measure of kicker performance.

Note about the Weekly Rating and Rank:
The Season Score is an effective tool to evaluate kickers over the course of a season. However, on a weekly basis, the weekly score may lack nuance for the very top performers due to the small sample size each week. The issue is that because ratings are based on points accumulated, its possible for a kicker with 4 good kicks to accumulate more points than say, a kicker with 3 great kicks, or 2 exceptional kicks. The question is which one had the better week? When it comes down to choosing the winner of the Best Kicker Award each week, game context is an important factor that computer models don't always detect.

To determine who has the top kicker performance in a given week, we will run our formulas and choose only the kickers who earn over a certain threshold (1.000 points that week).  Usually, there will not be more than 5 kickers in a given week. We will then evaluate on a case-by-case basis. In this select group only, players with a lower weekly score can be ranked above a player with a higher weekly score.
