Behavioral Insights Lab: Milestones and Impact

The Behavioral Insights Lab (BIL) has rapidly grown into a prominent hub for behavioral science research, innovation, and experiential learning at Florida Atlantic University.


Initial Funding & Development:

Highlighting the critical steps taken to establish the lab's physical and financial footing, emphasizing institutional support and resource development.

  • The BIL secured a significant $185,000 tech fee grant under the leadership of Dr. Melanie Lorenz to successfully build the physical lab on the Davie campus.

   

Research and Academic Output:

Focused on the lab's core function: generating knowledge in behavioral science.

  • Research Portfolio: 10 completed or ongoing research studies across diverse and relevant academic domains:
    • Consumer Behavior
    • Entrepreneurship
    • Advertising
    • Research Methodology
  • Capacity & Infrastructure: Maintaining 268 active research accounts, providing the technological backbone for continuous academic exploration.
  • A total of 810 total credits granted to students participated in research activities.

 

Student & Classroom Engagement: 

Focused on the lab's role in pedagogy and student career readiness.

  • Student Research Credits: 810 total credits granted to students, reflecting substantial, hands-on participation in research activities.

  • Curriculum Integration: Successful integration of the lab into 8 MAR3023 courses, offering structured, credit-bearing experiential learning.

  • Skills Development: Student participant numbers continue to grow as more core classes are added, driving the planned expansion of technology-driven learning experiences to give students a competitive skills advantage.

 

Goals for Future Growth:

The BIL is committed to scaling its impact across research production and student education:

  • Enhance Student Pipeline: Focus on increasing the number of student research participants and integrating more core undergraduate courses into the research process to strengthen experiential learning.

  • Expand Research Volume: Launch more research studies each semester, including collaborative projects designed to attract student participation.

  • Faculty Success: Actively supporting faculty in publishing strategically relevant and innovative studies in high-impact journals.
