University Scholar of the Year Award Nominees
Sending on behalf of Don Neubaum..
This year there were four faculty members who applied for the Scholar of the Year Awards from the College of Business (one for Assistant Professor and three for Associate Professor). All the applications reflected impressive research productivity over the past five years, which was the time frame to be considered in the nomination process following the guidelines provided by the Provost Office. The three applications from Associate Professors were evaluated by the COB Research committee. I appreciate the work of all of the candidates, and the faculty members who evaluated the applications.
Following the recommendations of the faculty committee, I am pleased to announce the following College of Business award winners, who are now our nominees for the University Scholar of the Year Awards.
Neeraj Puro, Assistant Professor, Management/Health Administration. Neeraj and his colleagues have published 24 articles, 19 of which have been published since he joined FAU. Of these publications, he is the first author on eight of them. His publication in Sociology of Health and Illness Journal (ABS4) lead to multiple interview requests and is in the top 25% of all research tracked by Altmetric, which is a data science company that tracks the online mentions of published research.
Melanie Lorenz, Associate Professor, Marketing. Over the five-year period under consideration, Melanie has been very productive, presenting her work 23 times at conferences and publishing 13 papers in referred journals, many which appear in most prestigious journals in her field. Eleven of these have been published in the last three years.
Please join me in congratulating this yearâs nominees for the University Scholar of the Year Awards!
Invest from the Nest Giving Campaign
Sending on behalf of Dean GropperâŠ
As we embark on a new year, we are excited to introduce Florida Atlanticâs Invest from the Nest Faculty and Staff Giving Campaign.
Our collective efforts will shape Florida Atlanticâs future and create a lasting impact for future generations to come. We invite you to help make a difference at Florida Atlantic and create a payroll deduction plan.
With a payroll deduction, you can choose to support a specific fund that benefits the College of Business, or you can support another fund that resonates with you. The benefit of a payroll deduction is that your recurring gift, no matter the size, will accrue throughout the year to make a big impact.
Even if you previously elected payroll deductions, the Invest from the Nest campaign allows you to create a new deduction in 2024 to support your Florida Atlantic family. Together, we can inspire a culture of philanthropy that lasts for generations to come.
Setting up a payroll deduction is easy. Register at https://fauf.fau.edu/payroll-deduction/ and select a fund from the dropdown list or click âOtherâ and use the âOtherâ box to specify the area you would like to fund.
Your enduring commitment to our students and university exemplifies the collective strength of our proud community of owls.

FLORIDA ATLANTIC RECEIVES NIH GRANT TO STUDY ELECTRONIC HEALTH RECORDS
The National Institutes of Health â Research Enhancement Award Program (REAP) awarded the grant to principal investigator Pierre Alexandre, PhD, associate professor and director of the Health Administration Program, along with Judy Monestime, co-principal investigator and instructor in the College of Business.
They received a $437,274 research grant from the National Institutes of Health to study the use of electronic health records in disadvantaged communities. The funded project, âUse of Electronic Health Records in Underserved Communities in Florida,â will look at the rate of meaningful use of electronic health records in areas with a high concentration of low-income residents, areas with racial minorities, as well as rural areas and inner cities to see if those rates are lagging and what the cause might be.
