Admissions Policy

The College of Business seeks a diverse, highly-qualified group of graduate students. Applications are evaluated on several factors emphasizing prior academic performance, GMAT or GRE scores, and the potential for scholarly and professional success.

The Master of Accounting degree program is selective. Meeting the minimum admission requirements does not guarantee admission to the program. Students who have an undergraduate degree in accounting are preferable to those who do not have such degrees. Students who have been dismissed from any traditional (non-Executive) MAC or TAX program are not eligible for re-admission.

In addition to other requirements for admission to the Graduate College at FAU, to be considered for these masters programs in the College of Business applicants must:

1. Have earned a bachelor’s degree from a regionally accredited college or university or the international equivalent. Official transcripts from all previous institutions should be sent to FAU Graduate Office.

2. Have a competitive grade point average on all previous college work, though emphasis will be on the last 60 credits earned.

Applicants to either the traditional (i.e., non-executive) Master of Accounting or the traditional Master of Taxation degree programs may be accepted into the programs without having to take the GMAT/GRE if they hold an undergraduate degree in accounting from a College of Business accredited by the Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business (AACSB) and have earned a minimum grade point average (GPA) of 3.50 (on a 4.00 scale) overall and in their accounting courses.    

If the applicant's overall GPA and accounting GPA is below 3.50, and the applicant still wants to be considered, the applicant may be requested to write an explanation as to why the applicant's GPA is not 3.50 or higher and, after considering the applicant's reasons for the lower-than-expected GPA, may be required to take the GMAT/GRE as a condition of further consideration.   

Students with bachelor's degrees in accounting from foreign countries are required to take foundation courses and pass the Accounting Competency Exam with a score of at least 70%. 

The Accounting Department does not accept transfer credits from other institutions.

Applications submitted after deadline will be processed in the most appropriate semester.

International Applicants

International applicants whose native language is not English must submit a TOEFL score of at least 600 (paper-based exam), 250 (computer-based) or 100 (internet-based).

Admissions Materials

All necessary admission materials including the completed online application, the application fees, transcripts and GMAT and/or GRE scores must be submitted by the admission deadline. For more information regarding admission tests please click here.

Please review applicant’s checklist to apply for graduate admission. When your online application is completed, application fees processed and all official transcripts have been received by the Graduate College, your application will be referred to the College of Business for a final decision.

Executive Programs

Executive MBA and Professional MBA programs can be found on the Executive Programs website.
