Uliana Filatova

Congratulations to Uliana Filatova, fourth-year Ph.D. student in Business Administration (Finance) as the winner of our 5th Annual Excellence in College of Business Ph.D. Student Teaching Award.

The Excellence in College of Business PhD Student Teaching Award is a competitive award that the college confers annually to one or two business Ph.D. students in one of the traditional concentrations. The intent with this award is to encourage effective instruction and recognize excellence in education.

Mark Kohlbeck, Ph.D., Director of FAU's College of Business Ph.D. Program, stated, “Uliana creates an active learning environment, uses innovative teaching techniques, and is able to present complicated material is way understandable by students. She clearly deserves this award.”

Uliana teaches undergraduate classes in corporate finance at Florida Atlantic, which corresponds with her primary research interests of corporate finance, corporate governance, financial institutions, and investments. She is also a double owl, having earned her MBA from FAU, and the professional credential of International Certificate of Valuation Specialist - Advanced (ICVS-A) from the Center for International Business Valuation (CFIBV). In addition, Uliana also earned a Certificate in Effective College Instruction from the Association of College and University Educators (ACUE), which focuses on evidence-based teaching practices for improving student engagement and learning. She holds a bachelor’s degree in economics from Finance University under the Government of the Russian Federation.

In being named this year’s awardee, Uliana shared what this means to her: “I am happy to receive this award; that's a great accomplishment. The Ph.D. program transformed me as a person and helped me to find my greatest passion in life. I cannot emphasize enough how I am grateful for all my professors who inspired me day by day to develop as an effective instructor and researcher,” she said.  “And of course, I would not be close to receiving this award without my students and their honest feedback on my teaching. Our profession is a challenging but loved life journey, and I will continue learning from my mentors to become a better me for my students.”

Florida Atlantic’s AACSB accredited College of Business offers the traditional Ph.D. in Business Administration program. Each fall strong candidates are admitted for concentrations in Accounting, Finance, Information Technology and Operation Management, and Marketing; every other fall students for the Management concentration with a focus on Entrepreneurship are admitted. Ph.D. placements after graduation include California State University-Fresno, Johns Hopkins University, Gonzaga University, Penn State University, Oregon State University, University of Miami, University of Central Florida, University of Michigan, University of Wisconsin, University of North Carolina, San Diego State University, and more: Accounting, Finance,  Entrepreneurship, (Marketing).
