The spirit of service was on full display earlier this year at Florida Atlantic University’s College of Business as students, faculty, staff, and community members gathered for the second annual Pack to Give Back event.
More than 200 volunteers representing over 40 campus and community organizations worked side by side in the Sean Stein Pavilion over the course of two shifts Jan. 31 to pack 67,000 meals to combat food insecurity for families in Palm Beach County. The event drew attendees such as FAU President Adam Hasner, Provost Ken Dawson-Scully and the beloved FAU mascot Owlsie, along with student organizations, all united by a shared commitment to give back.
From planning and promotion to execution, the day was a hands-on example of leadership, teamwork, and purpose in action. Volunteers moved assembly-line style, packing meals with efficiency and enthusiasm while gaining a deeper understanding of the impact of food insecurity in their own community.
The second annual event was organized in partnership with Palm Beach County Food Bank, FAU’s College of Business and leadership through Eileen Acello, president of FAU’s American Marketing Association Chapter, demonstrated the power of collective action and opportunities to engage with non-profit organizations, a core part of President Hasner’s initiative to deepen engagement with non-profit organizations across Palm Beach County.
Jersey Mike’s Subs generously donated 200 lunches, ensuring volunteers stayed energized throughout the event.
“We are deeply grateful to Florida Atlantic University, President Adam Hasner, and Dean Gropper for opening their campus and inspiring students, faculty, and volunteers to take an active role in the fight against hunger. FAU’s Pack to Give Back Day has become the Palm Beach County Food Bank’s annual South County event, and its success reflects the power of meaningful community partnerships,” said Jamie Kendall, CEO of the Palm Beach County Food Bank.
With momentum building, planning is already underway for the third annual Pack to Give Back, scheduled for next April, promising another opportunity for the FAU College of Business community to come together and make a difference.
