For the third year in a row, the College of Business international internship and business program took place this summer. This nine-credit program took place in the historic city of Seville, capital of the Andalucia region and the largest city in Southern Spain.
This year, 28 Florida Atlantic undergraduates performed six-week internships with local companies and took FAU classes in English at the historic University of Seville.
Students are placed in internships with companies that match the interest and skill levels of students. Before the internship starts, students have a rigorous orientation on the tools they will use, the project they will work on, and get to know their teammates companies and supervisors, so that when they arrive on site in Spain they are ready to hit the ground running.
These international internships are a major point of differentiation for our students and give them valuable international work experience that would be very hard for them to set up on their own.
“This program gave our students valuable work experience in an international setting. This opportunity would be very difficult for them to secure without our help. Having an internship abroad gives our students an advantage when interviewing for jobs.”
– Joseph Patton, Faculty Leader and Instructor
This year, students performed internships in Digital Marketing, Product Management, Project Management, Business Development, Customer Validation, and Test Marketing, and included companies in healthcare, tourism, hospitality, event planning, and food manufacturing, and education.
These internships gave them valuable experience to be able to put on resumes and to talk about in job interviews. For most students, this was the highlight of the program.
"Honestly, the internship was definitely a main factor I took into consideration when deciding to do this study abroad program. I thought it would be a great experience to work with a company abroad while living in a totally different country. It just felt like a more unique and real way to learn compared to sitting in a regular classroom. Getting hands-on experience like this—especially in another country —has taught me so much more than I expected."
– Nicole Eden (student)
'This internship made my study abroad program better and is definitely a cool experience and something I will look back on as I further in my career and it is something I can talk about in future interviews. I think doing the internship was the most valuable thing I could have done here. It's also something that will help stand out on my resume compared to other candidates as international work is something to cherish and be proud of. It is an experience not everyone can get and I am blessed to have had this in my early 20’s."
– Andre Aliahmad (student)
"I found this internship experience as a bonus because not only do I get 9 required credits, but I can also build my resume through this internship. Saying you interned abroad is the craziest experience you could have on your resume!"
– Rosalinda Esther (student)
The program also includes two upper level classes at the University of Seville. These are regular FAU classes, taught in English and count toward the student’s business major requirements. To enhance the cultural experience, students live with Spanish families and eat meals with them.
The six-week program also included site visits to local companies such as chocolate manufacturers, beer brewers, and had local entrepreneurs speak to class about their business in Kombucha and fashionwear. We also visited an Olive Oil producer, toured the Sevilla Futbol Club stadium, and had a day trip to the seaside city of Cadiz.
“This international internship program is a key part of the College’s efforts to provide more international opportunities to our students. These internships are invaluable to our undergraduate students in gaining international work experience and competing in a globalized world.”
– Marc Rhorer, Associate Dean
This program will repeat in 2026 from May 17-June 26. Dr. Joseph Patton and Dr. Anil Bilgihan will be the faculty leads.
