Minors

What is a minor?

Minors are official programs of study; when completed, they are noted on the student's official transcript.  The number of courses required to complete a minor varies depending on the program, but is typically much fewer than the number of courses for a major.

A minor should be thought of as an optional direction for elective credit.  Students are not encouraged to pursue a minor if it will extend their graduation or result in an excess credit hour surcharge.

The following applies to all business minors (unless stated otherwise):

  • In accordance with university policy, 75% of the credits in the minor must be taken at FAU.
  • Courses used for the minor must be completed with a grade of "C" or better.
  • Minors are available to undergraduate degree-seeking students upon successful completion of the minor coursework and the simultaneous successful completion of a bachelor's degree from FAU.
  • It is not possible to pursue a major and minor in the same subject.

Other policies may apply.  Refer to the university catalog or speak to a business advisor for more information.

How do I declare a business minor?

  1. Speak to your academic advisor (in the college that houses your major if different than business) to find out how many electives you need to complete for your program and whether a minor might be a good option for you.
  2. Review the available business minors to see which one may interest you.
  3. Meet with a College of Business advisor.
