Master's in Economics
The Department of Economics offers a comprehensive Master of Science in Economics degree program. Students may choose the General Economics track that provides maximum flexibility in course selection or pursue one of three optional concentrations to focus in one area of specialty: Econometrics and Data Analytics, Financial Economics, or International Economics. Our program is designed to appeal to both full-time students and the working professional, with most classes offered in the evening and with a remote (online) attendance option. With some limitations (e.g., certain non-economics business courses are not offered online), it is possible to complete the entire Master’s degree program online.
Our program is designed with flexibility in mind. One can complete the Master of Science in Economics degree in as little as 12 months with a full-time course load or can spread the coursework over a longer period to fit one’s schedule. We also offer a combined undergraduate/master’s program for qualified FAU undergraduate students which allows up to three graduate economics courses to count toward both the bachelor’s and master’s degree requirements. For students desiring to pursue academic research, we offer directed independent studies (3 credits) and a master’s Thesis option (6 credits) that count toward the 30-credit degree requirement. The Department also hosts a one-week International Field Experience every May, where one can earn 3 credits toward the M.S. degree.
Florida Atlantic University is a dynamic and growing institution, and the Department of Economics is no exception. With 15 full-time faculty with Ph.D.’s from leading institutions, we offer small class sizes (averaging 16 students) and a friendly academic environment to study and learn. It is our goal to prepare students for advancement in their current career and/or to pursue new opportunities. Recent graduates have secured lucrative careers in major corporations, multinational consulting firms, the financial industry, and in the public sector. For example, recent alumni are working at Royal Caribbean, Deloitte, Boeing, Johnson & Johnson, and the Bureau of Labor Statistics. Some graduates choose to pursue a career in academia, with recent placements in Ph.D. programs including the University of Florida, Syracuse University, and Colorado State University. Regardless of one’s career ambitions, our program will provide the economic tools along with quantitative and analytical training to maximize career success.
